Our Begining

Dear Friends, My journey with Room to Grow Explorers began with a simple observation: my daughters longed for a stronger sense of community, a desire mirrored by my own yearning for a more values-aligned educational approach. This realization led me to explore alternative educational philosophies and communities. In 2023, I immersed myself in the Agile Learning Community, spending countless hours listening to interviews with founders from around the globe. A particularly impactful talk by Dr. Sujata on establishing a tuition-free program resonated deeply, igniting my determination to create a similar model. Further enriching my understanding were the writings of the Alliance for Self-Directed Education, Peter Gray's insightful articles, and Aquila Richards's thought-provoking books. The Living Joyfully online community also provided invaluable support and shaped my evolving perspective. However, the seeds of Room to Grow Explorers were sown much earlier, in 2022, during my ti...

Our Why

Together we want to create an environment where children are trusted and celebrated for who they are and not what they can do. We want to create a community where they can feel unconditionally loved. We want to make room for them to be themselves, trust themselves and each other. We want to be part of and contribute to a community of people that believes in trusting and respecting kids choices and interests. We see value in kids intrinsic motivation and passions to drive their learning. W e are choosing to come together because we value play, self-direction, sense of self, exploration, and social- emotional skills. We value children, the uniqueness of each child, and we want them to feel seen and valued.

Our Mission

Room to Grow Explorers is a program that provides school age children and their families with child development services, education and resources that promote a safe, non-coercive environment for the development of social, emotional, creative, intellectual, cognitive and physical skills. The means of providing such services may include, but is not limited to facilitated activities, workshops, consultation and modeling behaviors . Through their participation in the program, parents learn about child development and learning while fostering their relationship with their child. Children, with the support of caring adults, learn through interest based hands-on involvement and in-depth exploration of the world around them.   We trust their self-determination and curiosity. We trust their varied ways of knowing are valid, and their interdisciplinary interests add richness to our shared worlds. We trust that offering supportive relationships and safe places for play and exploration serves...

Who We Are

We are a Homeschool Cooperative.  We firmly believe that Self-Directed Learning is a way of life.  We are parents who facilitate the processes of the children, with love, respect, freedom, creating appropriate environments that allow them to make internal connections and thus acquire all the learning that each one requires.  We are all learning constantly, growing, making mistakes and trying new ways. We make decisions as a community and move forward together. We use the tools of Agile Learning (Set the day, gratitude circle) to be more dynamic, effective in meetings, to make decisions and to organize ourselves. There is no family that leads and makes decisions. We are democratic and make decisions knowing that we can always change, test and move forward.  Each family contributes based on what it has and can give, not only in economic terms, but also in skills and knowledge, always looking for the common good.
